Virat Kohli Withdraws from England Tests: BCCI Announces Replacement for Rohit Sharma’s Team India

In a significant development, former India skipper Virat Kohli has opted out of the initial two Tests against England, leading to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) preparing to unveil his replacement shortly.

Rohit Sharma’s Team India faces a setback as the batting maestro, Virat Kohli, will be absent for the first two Tests in the anticipated five-match series against England. Kohli, who recently made a comeback in the T20I format during the Afghanistan series at home, announced his withdrawal from India’s upcoming red-ball assignment on Monday, citing personal reasons. The commencement of the series with the first Test in Hyderabad is just around the corner, scheduled to begin on Thursday.

The BCCI, confirming Kohli’s departure from the Indian squad ahead of the Test series, expressed its understanding and support for the former skipper. In an official statement, the BCCI stated, “Virat Kohli has requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to be withdrawn from the first two Tests of the upcoming IDFC First Bank Test series against England, citing personal reasons.”

Furthermore, Kohli engaged in discussions with Captain Rohit Sharma, the team management, and members of the selection committee before finalizing his decision. The BCCI emphasized that representing the country has always been Kohli’s top priority, but certain personal situations demand his presence and undivided attention. The Board and team management expressed confidence in the remaining squad members, anticipating commendable performances in the Test series.
